Which workflow fits?
The products operate at different layers. AX Code uses supported coding CLIs as providers inside its workflow. Herdr manages terminals running existing agents across projects and machines.
| Consideration | AX Code | Herdr |
|---|---|---|
| Existing coding CLIs | Claude Code, Codex CLI, Grok Build CLI and Kimi Code CLI can act as providers using their local login/session. | Runs existing agent CLIs in server-owned terminals, with agent integrations. |
| Persistence | Recorded sessions support later inspection and comparison; retained file snapshots support recovery. These do not imply an uninterrupted process. | Detaching leaves processes running on the server. A full server restart ends processes; supported integrations can resume native agent sessions. |
| Review focus | Inspect coding execution and file changes, compare attempts and evaluate arena candidates with repository checks. | Organize agent terminals, observe their status and reconnect to workspaces. |
What to evaluate with AX Code
AX Code Standard is open source under Apache-2.0. Its terminal workflow supports connected local or cloud models, recorded execution, file-change review and session comparison. Local model performance depends on your hardware and selected model. External services may charge for usage.
AX Code Business is planned. The website’s illustrative speed display is not a benchmark against Herdr.
Inspect AX Code’s source and documented capabilities ↗Does persistent state mean an agent keeps running through every restart?
No. Separate a live process, saved terminal layout, conversation history and file recovery. Herdr documents different restore paths for these. AX Code session records and rollback points likewise should not be treated as proof of uninterrupted execution.
Try a representative task
Compare a coding task and a detach/reconnect task separately. Inspect the resulting patch and tests, then verify what survives disconnection and server restart in your setup. AX Code integration with Herdr has not been qualified by this comparison.
